New Foods!
Kara had her 9 month appointment on Wednesday, I can't even believe it! Dr. Rush told us that we could now give her any foods except nuts, honey, and milk. We gave her scrambled eggs for dinner the other night, and she just loved it! We also gave her some peas that I had pureed earlier in the week with it. I told the doctor that she does not like to eat her oatmeal/rice/mixed grains cereal in the morning, and he said that is because she is becoming independent, and wants to feed herself. I could not believe this, independent already - she is still our baby! Anyway, I told him that she does like to do thing herself, so he suggested that we give her some Cheerios, and then a bottle afterward. Worked like a charm. Kara is now eating "big food," as we call it. They really grow up too fast!

On The Mend!
After a very long night of waking up every 2 hours, Kara seems to finally be feeling better! I am so happy to report to all that she is no longer running a fever!!!!! She is doing so much better, and Brian and I are very relieved. She still has a slight cough, but she is definitely on the road to healing. I am hoping that she sleeps well tonight, and has an even better day tomorrow! Here are some pictures of her looking much better! She is on the way back to being her mischievous self, and get a load of the two front teeth that are coming in!

Sick Baby Part 3
After a long day of holding Kara, she is finally in her crib. She slept almost all day on me, and would really only wake up for short periods at a time. I have never felt so horrible in my life! It was the first time that I have felt truly helpless as a mother :( On the bright side, Kara seems to have broken her fever! I have been taking her temp. every time I change her diaper, and about an hour ago she started to cray in her crib. I went in and she was really sweating, which made me think that she may have broke her fever. I called the doctor many times today, and I asked all the different things that I could give to her. Stacey had said that Motrin worked well for my nephews, so I asked about that. They said that I could give her both motrin and tylenol at the same time as they are different types of drugs. Well after doing Tylenol all day, to really no avail, I decided to give it a shot. Paul and Brian stopped on their way home from the brewery tour and picked up some Motrin. Seems to have worked, her fever, as of 10:00 p.m. was at 99.8 - drastic change from the 102.1 I had gotten just a few hours prior! It has been a long day, and a very challenging day. I now know how my own mom felt all of the times that we were sick. Off to try to get some rest of my own, as I am totally drained!
Sick Baby Part 2
Here are just a few more pictures of Kara. We took her temp. again and it was at 102.4 - I feel so terrible for her. She is just sleeping/laying down on the living room floor. I don't want to put her in her crib, I want to keep her close to me today. I was happy that she took another bottle of 6 oz. that made me feel good. I took these pictures of her in her highchair. I tried to give her an ice cube in the hopes of helping her throat if it hurts, but she would not take it. I feel so terrible!!!!! However, I had to take pictures, this is, after all, the first time she has ever been sick.
Sick Baby :(
Last night Brian and I noticed that Kara felt a little hot, and was just not her normal self. We took her temperature, and sure enough 101.7 - a fever, her first. We gave her some Tylenol and put her to bed. At about 4 a.m. she woke up screaming. We tried to soothe her, and she was not having it. We again took her temperature, and it was at 100.5, so we gave her a little more Tylenol and put her back to bed. Well she woke up bright and early around 6:30 this morning, and she was not really running a fever, so we gave her a bottle and brought her into bed with us. She took the bottle, thank goodness, and then fell asleep for a little while.
I called the doctor at 8 this morning, and they said to watch it until Friday, and if she continues to have a fever, to call back on Friday and bring her in. I am so sad for my little baby. She is not acting like herself at all, she is way more sleepy, and wants to be held when she is not. She won't even play with her toys, that is so not Kara! I feel terrible as a parent, and helpless, I never thought she would get sick, yet I guess it had to happen.
We had a tour booked today for part of Brian's birthday gift, at the Anchor Steam Brewery in San Francisco. I booked this tour back in late April as they book something like six to eight weeks in advance. I am a little bummed that I will not be able to attend with everyone, but Kara needs her rest, and her mommy!
I took some pictures of the sweet little angel sleeping. You can see it in her eyes that she is not feeling well, they look puffy, and red. She is just like me, cannot fake sick! Poor baby!

1 Year!
I just realized that it has been one year since I first started this blog. I am so happy to be able to chronicle all of our memories, and share them with friends and family! This is such a nice way to keep everyone updated with photos and stories of our family. Here is to one GREAT year, and many more to follow! Thanks for reading :)
The Beach
Summary of D.C.
I finally have a moment to update the blog. We have had a wonderful summer so far. Kara took her first plane ride to Washington D.C. We were very nervous about how she would do, however, she never ceases to amaze us, she was PERFECT! We fed her on take off, and after she ate, she cried for about 5 minutes, at which point I looked at Brian and stated with a red face, "We just became THAT family." However, after only five minutes she surprised us and took a nap for 2.5 hours. She woke up happy and made everyone around us smile. We fed her on decent as well, and she was an angel!
We had a BALL in DC with my family! It was great to see everyone, and Kara enjoyed meeting her cousin, Parker, and great Auntie, Paula, for the first time. We had a full schedule, and did as much as we possibly could in the week we were there. I swear one needs a couple of months to visit everything they have in D.C.
We were able to see a couple of different Smithsonian Museums, we went to the Newseum, The Vietnam Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, the capital building, Roosevelt Memorial, Georgetown, Arlington National Cemetery, and we took a trolley tour of D.C. as well. We were very busy, but it was so much fun. Kelly was a great tour guide! We did take a day off mid week, and took Kara in the pool for the first time ever. She loved the water, and Parker enjoyed playing with her too.
All in all, the DFC was a success. I think that we were able to pin down a location for the next DFV, we will see..... To top off the trip, Marc had proposed to Kelly a week prior!!! Stacey, Kelly, Kara and I took some time out to look at magazines, and try to help Kelly with some pre-planning! Looking forward to their amazing wedding next year, which I think should also be a DFC to figure out 2011's DFV ;)
